Setting up data with the 9555 on a Windows Vista PC
1 - Installing the USB Drivers
If you have installed older drivers for the 9555 (ie you have had the handset since Spring 2009) on the computer then you must un-install them first, please contact support@callmonitor.com for details.
1) Ensure the PC is turned on and that a USB port is accessible 2) From the 9555 Data CD, copy the VCOMPORT folder to the c:\ directory 3) Turn on the 9555 Handset 4) Connect the Mini USB Connector to the Handset 5) Connect the Standard USB Connector to the PC 6) At this time your PC should initialize the Found New Hardware Wizard 7) At the initial screen, select the option to Locate and install driver software (recommended)
 8) If a security window pops up, click Continue 9) If prompted to search online, select Don’t search online
 10) When prompted to insert the disc that came with your Iridium 9555 Handset, select I don’t have the disc. Show me other options 9555 Satellite Phone
 11) Then select Browse my computer for driver software (advanced)
 12) Browse and select the location of the VCOMPORT folder
 13) Click Next 14) You may get a Windows® security warning that the publisher of the driver can’t be verified, select Install this driver software anyway
 15) Once the installation has completed, you will receive a message that the process has completed – click Finish to exit.
2 - Install the Modem
1) Close all applications. 2) Choose Start > Control Panel. 3) Double click on Phone and Modem Options. 4) Select the Modems tab and click Add. 5) Check Don’t detect my modem; I will select it from a list. Then, click Next >. 6) From the Manufacturer list, highlight Standard Modem Types 7) In the right pane click Standard 19200bps Modem, and then click Next>. 8) Click the Selected ports button. Click on an available COM Port (e.g., COM1). This is the port to which you will connect your Iridium device. Click Next >. 9) Click Finish. Close all windows accept Control Panel. 10) From Control Panel Double Click Phone and Modem Options 11) Click Modems tab, then Properties, then Change Settings, then the Advanced tab. 12) Add Initialization String: AT+CBST=71,0,1 and click OK. 13) Modem addition and setup complete. Close the Phone and Modem Options window.
3 - Configure Dial-Up Networking
1) Choose Start > Control Panel Double Click on Network and Sharing Center. 2) Click Set Up a Connection or Network (upper left). 3) Choose Set Up a Dial Up Connection. Click Next>. 4) In the Dial Up Phone Number field, type: 008816000025 5) Leave User Name and Password fields blank, In the Connection Name field create an appropriate name for the connection (e.g. Iridium Data). 6) Click Connect then Skip and choose Set Up The Connection Anyway. Click Close. 7) Return to the Network and Sharing Center and choose Manage Network Connections (upper left) to initiate call dialing.
4 - Starting your data call
1) Connect the computer and phone. 2) Orient the phone’s antenna with a clear view of the sky down to the horizon in all directions. 3) If your computer is turned off, turn it on and wait for it to boot up. 4) Turn on your Iridium phone and wait for it to register with the satellite network. 5) Start > Connect To > Select Connection Name i. Click the dial-up connection you created (e.g., “Iridium” or Iridium Data), and then click Connect or Dial. (Note: A username and password are not necessary, and anything in these fields will be ignored). 6) As the Iridium phone is dialing, it will blink “Data Call In Progress” and a Dial-Up Networking window will appear on your computer showing the current status of the connection. 7) Once connected, the handset will continue to display “Data Call In Progress,” but it will no longer blink. 8) Once authenticated, a dial-up networking session is established, and the dial-up networking icon will appear in your task bar. 9) You can now launch your Internet application.
